Why did you go into Music Therapy?
Honestly, it’s quite straightforward with me. I have always had a passion for helping others and grew up with a strong love of music. When I was a junior in high school I discovered that I could pursue both of these passions through Music Therapy. After some research, I was hooked and knew this is exactly what I wanted to do. Music is such a powerful medium that is embedded in each of us in one way or another, and I absolutely love how it has the ability to connect all of us even without spoken word. It is a form of communication in itself, which is evidence of how influential it can be as a therapy.
Favorite music-related quote?
“One does not need to have any formal knowledge of music – nor, indeed, to be particularly “musical” – to enjoy music and to respond to it at the deepest levels. Music is part of being human, and there is no human culture in which it is not highly developed and esteemed.” – Oliver Sacks
What is your favorite part of being a music therapist?
The honor of sharing a moment of success with a client during a session.
Advice for a high school student interested in this career?
